Cheju Halla University

This is a work-in-progress proposal created by Only People for Cheju Halla University.

From Moment to Momentum

Executive Summary

What if Only People visited Cheju Halla University on Monday, November 25th and facilitated two workshops over the course of one day?

The morning workshop could be for a small group of faculty curious to experience how they might incorporate project-based learning and design thinking methods into their curriculum and teaching practice.

The afternoon session could be for a large group of students curious to experience new ways of thinking and doing and feel inspired by the endless opportunities of the future.

We are committed to providing an engaging, productive experience that will leave participants with valuable skills and insights.

Whether you are shaping the minds of the next generation or navigating your own future, these workshops are designed to offer practical benefits that can be applied immediately.

The investment for these two workshop sessions would range from $50,000 - $100,000 USD. Largest variables costs include logistics, materials & engagement beyond the one day workshop.

We believe “the relationship is the project” and seek opportunities to build long term relationships over one-time workshops.

To that end, we are open to discuss investment options below the investment range if there is opportunity and alignment in our collective long term vision.

Below you will find an overview of what the two sessions might look like along with media assets from similar workshops we’ve done in the past.

Morning Session

You are here.*

Overview:

In an era of rapid change and complex challenges, the ability to innovate and think critically about the future is more important than ever.

Real world, project-based learning is a learning approach that has been embraced by the Stanford d.school since it’s inception to help produce innovative students.

But if faculty are uncomfortable navigating the ambiguity that can come with designing and delivering project-based learning experiences, then the students are out of luck.

This workshop is designed to help faculty build their capacity to design project-based learning experiences.

Informed by the Stanford d.school’s approach to project-based learning and inspired by the song ”You are here” by John Lennon, this workshop provides faculty a practical visual framework to help faculty & students better navigate through the process of project-based learning.

Faculty will learn by doing, applying design thinking methods and discovering actionable ways to incorporate project-based learning approaches into their current curriculum.

Duration:

3 hours (9am - 12pm)

Participants:

~24 Faculty

Materials:

Workshop materials and reference workbook will be provided.

Location:

To be arranged within Cheju Halla University premises, suitable for interactive workshops

Navigating Ambiguity

Watch Sarah Stein Greenberg (Executive Director of the Stanford d.school) and Scott Doorley (Creative Director of the Stanford d.school) talk about how and why the d.school uses real world, project-based learning experiences to help their students learn how to navigate ambiguity

Navigating Ambiguity video series directed by Seamus Yu Harte (Head of Learning Experience Design for the Electives Program at the Stanford d.school / Founder of Only People)

Seamus Yu Harte maps the learning experience design of The Starter Kit in Huddle 2 of the Stanford d.school.

Louie Montoya shares with Bernie Roth (Founding member of the Stanford d.school) and other d.school faculty & staff a prototype of The Starter Kit to get feedback.

Afternoon Session

Imagine Nutopia.*

Overview:

In an era of instant gratification, it can be overwhelmingly challenging for young people to imagine their needs—let alone others—beyond what is immediately in front of them.

But if we don’t help students build their capacity to pause—and imagine—what the future might look like, then we are failing our next generation.

This workshop is designed to give students the time and space to pause—get inspired—and build their capacity of futures thinking.

Informed by the Stanford d.school’s approach to project-based learning and inspired by the song ”Imagine” by John Lennon and the conceptual country of “Nutopia”, developed by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, this workshop provides students an opportunity to consider their future legacy and what steps they can take today to ensure it.

Students will learn by doing, applying design thinking methods and discovering actionable ways to become active citizens of the future, rather than passive consumers.

Duration:

3 hours (6pm - 9pm)

Participants:

~100 Students / Faculty

Materials:

Workshop materials and reference workbook will be provided.

Location:

To be arranged within Cheju Halla University premises, suitable for interactive workshops
